Danny Thupane, a council member for the African Transformation Movement (ATM), has resigned from his position as mayor of the Mogale City Local Municipality.
With the support of a coalition consisting of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the African National Congress (ANC), Thupane has been leading the West Rand municipality since April 2023.
On Wednesday, the speaker declared Thupane’s resignation prior to the voting on a resolution of no confidence in him. Thupane stated in his resignation letter that he had consulted with the ANC and his party.
“Councillor Thupane’s accomplishments would not have been possible without the collaborative spirit fostered with our coalition partners, the African National Congress (ANC) and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). The ATM is grateful for this collaboration, which serves as an inspiring testament that political parties, particularly progressive parties, can unite for a common cause. Together, we have shown that effective governance is possible through cooperation and a shared vision.” read the resignation letter.
Point of View with Phemelo Motene spoke to African National Congress West Rand Regional Chairperson, William Matsheke about Danny Thupane decision to resign.
